Events of such a high level of complexity for Special Olympics athletes are held only in St. Petersburg with active informational support from the media of St. Petersburg and Russia. Representatives of the St. Petersburg government, the Legislative Assembly, the Sports Committee, and other honored guests were invited to support the athletes.

The competition began with a bright opening ceremony, where a torch with the Olympic flame was lit, and the participants solemnly recited the athlete's oath of the Special Olympics movement.
