On August 15 in St. Petersburg, Russian Minister of Sports Mikhail Vladimirovich Degtyarev together with St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Dmitrievich Beglov opened the Center for Adaptive Physical Culture and Sports.
The largest specialized institution in the country was built by order of the head of state.
The Director of FSBI SPbNIIFK Sergey Alekseevich Vorobyov participated in the opening ceremony of the Center.
"Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin emphasizes: 'Adaptive sports can change the fate of many people with disabilities, society's attitude towards them, and give a sense of fulfillment in life.'
Today the adaptive sports center includes several game halls, general physical training halls, a 25-meter pool with variable geometry, a medical rehabilitation center, and a 90-room hotel.
The created infrastructure will allow conducting training and rehabilitation at a new quality level, organizing Russian and international competitions in more than 20 sports disciplines," noted M.V. Degtyarev.
In St. Petersburg, more than 160 thousand people with unlimited possibilities regularly engage in sports. The center's specialists are creating a scientific base for working with such athletes and will assist with physical rehabilitation and social adaptation. Additionally, construction of a sports complex for wheelchair dancing will soon begin on the center's territory. This important area also requires development. All conditions for sports and rehabilitation in the new center will also be available to participants of the Special Military Operation.
