MAIN RESEARCH AREAS OF THE SECTOR:

- Development of a monitoring system for the physical condition of various age and gender groups in the Russian Federation;
- Development of computer-based analytical programs for comparative analysis of physical activity levels among the Russian population and identification of factors promoting its growth;
- Development of mobile applications to increase engagement in physical culture and sports among different age and gender groups;
- Development and implementation of community-based health-focused physical activity programs;
- Development of educational programs and training for physical culture and sports specialists on organizing health and fitness events for diverse social groups;
- Development of continuing education programs and training for physical culture and sports specialists in sports massage.

Key scientific achievements:

  • Developed and implemented the "Galaktika - Healthy Lifestyle" computer testing system for assessing physical condition and providing personalized exercise recommendations for different age groups;
  • Created a monitoring system for participants' physical condition to optimize exercise loads in health-focused physical activity (HPA) sessions;
  • Designed and implemented comprehensive self-guided HPA programs;
  • Developed strategies for: primary prevention of drug addiction among children and adolescents; improving quality of life for children with disabilities and special needs through adaptive physical education; promoting youth health, sports, and adaptive tourism; and advancing Olympic education among children and adolescents.

The automated "Galaktika - Healthy Lifestyle" testing system is designed for mass screenings to assess physical development, neuropsychological adaptation, motor fitness, and generate personalized recommendations for individual and group activities. The method is protected by 3 Russian patents.
The sector develops individualized exercise programs based on comprehensive assessments for preschoolers, schoolchildren, students, and adults. These holistic health training programs include walking, running, equipment-based exercises, active games, dynamic/static relaxation, and other modalities. Programs incorporate theoretical components covering worldview aspects, consciousness-health relationships, moral-ethical dimensions of health, and fundamentals of human physiology.

Since 1992, sector staff have participated in the long-term international research program "Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children" (HBSC). The coordinating center is located at the WHO Regional Office for Europe in Copenhagen (Denmark), with the international database in Bergen (Norway) and scientific hub in Edinburgh (Scotland). Researchers from Eastern/Western Europe and North America - including specialists from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Ukraine - collaborate to develop effective socio-pedagogical approaches to youth health promotion. Schoolchildren surveys are conducted quadrennially using standardized protocols. Initiated in 1982 with 5 countries, the sixth survey included 35 nations.

Research outcomes contribute to national reports and the WHO-published international report "Health Behaviour among Young People" (WHO Policy Series: "Health policy for children and adolescents").
